FDIC International 2024: The Ultimate Trade Show Experience
Let’s Get Up To Date! Where Have We Been?
As a leading supplier of specialty vinyl, adhesives, and reflective products, American Sign Products had the privilege of participating in the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC International) Trade Show in Indianapolis, as well as the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Conference earlier this year. These events serve as platforms for innovation, collaboration, and networking, offering opportunities to showcase cutting-edge solutions and engage with industry leaders.
ATSSA Trade Show: Driving A Path for Safety
The American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Conference is one of the premier events in the traffic safety industry. Held annually, this conference serves as a nexus for discussing the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in transportation safety. From road infrastructure innovations to traffic management solutions, the ATSSA Conference covers a spectrum of topics aimed at enhancing roadway safety for motorists, pedestrians, and workers alike. At this show, we made many meaningful connections with industry professionals committed to the same cause–safer roads for everyone!
FDIC Trade Show: A Hub of Innovation

Each year in April, professionals and enthusiasts flock to Indianapolis for the renowned Fire Department Instructors Conference. Better known as FDIC International, this show is not just a trade show, it is an experience like no other. For those who work in the fire and rescue industry, such as firefighters, EMS, and volunteers, this show offers a variety of activities–from live speakers and workshops to competitions and training evolutions. Meanwhile, exhibitors and innovators bring new products and concepts to life with live demos and interactive experiences at their booths. Since its start in 1998, this has been one of the largest conferences held in Indianapolis and attracts attendees from across the globe.
Over 36,000 visitors attended FDIC International 2024, with 41% being new attendees. With over 800 exhibitors, 250 speakers, and 75 H.O.T (Hands-On Training Evolutions), visitors have endless options to explore during their time at FDIC. The continuous growth of this show offers a wealth of opportunity for exhibitors, innovators, and fire and rescue professionals alike. As a company that offers some of the top reflective and conspicuity products, our goal was to make valuable connections within the fire and rescue industry while learning more about current trends within the industry.
Igniting Connections: Our Booth Experience and Networking

Our booth was in Lucas Oil Stadium, which got heavy foot traffic in the mornings because it opened an hour earlier than the convention center. Crowds filed in early and explored vendors, demos, and experiences offered. We had a variety of conspicuity and reflective products displayed at our booth, as well as a giveaway and informational flyers providing more information on our products. Our corner booth was near the resting and eating area, which stayed consistently busy. Our neighbors, Blue Skies Drones, had an entertaining demo showcasing their “puppy drone”, which drew a bit of a crowd and entertained guests opening up the opportunity for conversation.
Many attendees were interested in talking and learning more about ASP and what we offer. We made some great connections with many volunteer and career firefighters. We also talked to fellow vendors, such as international outfitters, graphics shops, and distributors. These conversations helped us understand some of our customer’s pain points and the current needs and challenges within the firefighting and EMS sectors. We learned new trends and needs within the industry, such as the growth in popularity of black and red chevron markings for vehicles. We were able to recommend some options for achieving this look, with products such as 3M 5100R-85, a black vinyl reflective film. There was also a large interest in 3M’s Stamark High Performance Pavement Marking Tape, which could be used at fire departments in parking lots or in front of garages. We also learned a lot about volunteer fire departments and their processes for in-house maintenance, as many volunteer departments have low budgets.
Looking Ahead: Reflections and What’s To Come

Looking back on our time at FDIC International, our experience was nothing short of enlightening and rewarding. Not only did we make valuable connections, but we also gained a wealth of knowledge about our customers and the industry. From having the opportunity to showcase our top reflective and conspicuity products to engaging with dedicated and knowledgeable professionals, this event sparked our commitment to innovation and collaboration within the fire and rescue community. Thank you to FDIC International, all who attended, everyone we connected with, and our fellow exhibitors! We are immensely grateful for this experience and committed to finding new ways that our products can provide value to this industry.
As we say goodbye to FDIC, we encourage you to stay tuned to see where our next trade show takes us!
